Volkswagen are set to continue their hatchback legacy with the launch of the facelifted Golf 8, cementing the iconic Golf nameplate as a key model for Volkswagen in South Africa.

The Volkswagen Golf has a rich history in South Africa, that dates back to its launch in 1978 when the first generation quickly gained acclaim for reliability and performance. Local production meant it was affordable and popular with South African customers and its success continued throughout the generations. The Golf’s ongoing appeal can be attributed to its unique blend of quality, performance and stylish design.

Volkswagen are set to continue that legacy with the launch of the facelifted Golf 8, cementing the iconic Golf nameplate as a key model for Volkswagen in South Africa. When the eighth generation Golf was launched in 2021, it was only offered in Golf GTI and Golf R specification. With the introduction of the latest facelifted model the range now comprises a single 1.4 TSI engine option.

A modern design

The modern design of the latest iteration has been refined with a new front end that incorporates visually defining features including the Volkswagen logo, which is illuminated for the first time on the Golf and newly designed LED headlights. IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlights fitted to the top of the range models incorporate a new high-performance main beam with a range of up to 500m.

Under the bonnet

The facelifted Golf 8 will be offered with a single engine option, the 1.4TSI mated to an eight-speed tiptronic transmission. This engine offers 110kW and 250Nm and is capable of completing the 0-100km/h sprint in 8.5 seconds. The Golf also does a great job of blending performance and efficiency and will utilise just 6,3 litres per 100km on the combined cycle.

Four derivatives to choose from

The new Golf is available in Life, Life Plus, R-Line and R-Line Plus equipment lines.

As an entry point into the range, the Golf Life offers a perfect blend of style and technology. Exterior highlights include Eco LED headlights and 16-inch Norfolk alloy wheels. Interior specification includes a 10.3-inch Infotainment radio, six-speaker audio system, 10-colour ambient lighting dashboard and 10-inch integrated digital cockpit.

Life Plus models add to this with the addition of Driver Profile Selection, a rear-view camera, 30 colour ambient lighting and the art-velour sports comfort seats package.

R-Line models add sporty touches such as R-Line seat trim covers along with an integrated head rest for a sporty look, R-Line style bumpers and 17-inch Coventry alloy wheels. Additional specification includes LED plus headlamps, Park Assist with Park Distance Control, Progressive steering with sports suspension, Climatronic 3-zone automatic climate control, keyless entry and a multi-function heated steering wheel complete with paddle shifters.

The top of the range R-Line Plus gains IQ Matrix LED headlights with an illuminated front logo, power adjustable driver seat, active high beam, heated and cooling front seats, Vienna leather seats with R-Line logo, brushed stainless steel pedals and 18-inch Leeds alloy wheels.
