Suzuki is without a doubt one of the fastest growing brands in South Africa, having recently overtaken Volkswagen to claim number two in the monthly passenger car sales rankings.

The Suzuki Swift also regularly trumps all its competitors as the top seller in the passenger car segment, consistently outselling established models such as the Volkswagen Polo and Polo Vivo. In March this year alone, 1608 Swifts found homes in South Africa, the Fronx retailed 1052 units and 749 units of the Ertiga seven-seater were sold.

This success can be attributed to offering vehicles that represent excellent value for money at the time of purchase while also being cost effective to run, thanks to compact frugal engines and overall Japanese reliability.

Suzuki’s entire range is also positioned in the sweet spot in terms of where the bulk of South Africans are shopping with the entire model range priced between R178 000 and R429 900.

A wide range of vehicles offered at the right price

The range kicks off with a variety of hatchbacks including the S-Presso priced from R178 000 and Celerio priced from R188 900. The ever-popular Swift range kicks off at R219 900. Suzuki’s largest hatchback the Baleno, offers space for up to five passengers along with a powerful yet efficient 1.5-litre engine. The result is a grown-up car, that won’t break the bank thanks to a starting price of R260 900.

Suzuki’s performance focussed Swift Sport offers unrivalled performance thanks to an incredible power to weight figure. While tipping the scales at under 1000kg, its 1.4-litre Boosterjet engine offers 103kW and 230Nm resulting in a real pocket rocket. Pricing starts at R454 900.

While sedans have dwindled in popularity, Suzuki still offers two solutions in this segment, including the Dzire, priced from R217 900 and Ciaz, priced from R286 900, both of which are great people movers and a favourite amongst e-hailing services thanks to the value for money proposition across their lifecycle.

For those motorists with an adventurous spirit, Suzuki offers a variety of crossovers and SUVs and even a real 4x4, while sticking to the budget.

The compact Ignis is a unique urban SUV that offers SUV capability in a compact package. A frugal 1.2-litre engine offering 61kW offers unrivalled travelling costs while generous ground clearance is perfect for most weekend adventures. Pricing starts at R237 900.

The larger Fronx combines hatchback practicality and performance with Crossover styling and ability. The Fronx offers the best of both worlds, a spacious city runabout during the week and a travel companion over weekends. The Fronx is powered by a 1.5-litre engine offering 77kW and 138Nm and pricing starts at R298 900.

Suzuki’s top of the range Grand Vitara might be the ultimate family car as it combines a stylish exterior with an interior that is spacious and well equipped to carry passengers and their luggage on all types of adventures. A 1.5-litre engine and an all-wheel drive system give the Grand Vitara the capability it needs to facilitate fun family adventures without breaking the bank.

SA’s most affordable 4x4

For true adventurers, Suzuki offers the Jimny, both in three and five door guise. This compact 4x4 utilises a 1.5-litre engine coupled to a four-wheel drive system, complete with low range and a diff lock. This gives the Suzuki Jimny the capability to tackle the roughest, most extreme 4x4 obstacles.

The Suzuki Jimny is also the most cost effective 4x4 available on the market by a long shot, with the next cheapest, four-seater, 4x4 available on the South African market costing around R200 000 more. This makes the Jimny perfect for those adventurers who yearn for the great outdoors on a more reasonable budget.

Practical people carriers

Suzuki’s range also offers a duo of stylish yet practical people carriers, which include the Ertiga and XL6. Both these models combine Suzuki’s tried and tested powerplants with the ability to transport six or seven passengers in a cost effective manner. Pricing starts at R290 900 and R353 900 respectively.

For small business owners, models like the Eeco and Super Carry are able to do the heavy lifting that many businesses require, with an affordable starting price of R187 900.

Great resale value

Inherent quality and reliability along with increasing popularity mean that Suzuki’s entire range retain their value and outperform market depreciation significantly. This makes the Suzuki brand a safe bet, both when shopping for a new or a used vehicle.
