Second-Hand Cars For Sale For Every Budget

Second-Hand Cars For Sale For Every Budget

Our dream cars are often unattainable straight off the production line. High prices, downward-trending economies and limited disposable income can all make it seem nearly impossible. Not all of us have the luxury of buying new, leaving us feeling disappointed at the thought of not being able to achieve a goal. But by browsing through second hand cars for sale, you may be able to purchase the vehicle you really want without compromising yourself financially.

Bearing this in mind, here are our picks for cars to meet almost every budget.

Affordable Hatchbacks

Hatchbacks continue to grow in popularity, especially with city dwellers and suburban families. This is because they offer consumers compact run-around vehicles that are light on fuel, perform reasonably well and cost far less compared to other segments.

Datsun Go (R139 900)

The Datsun Go remains the cheapest hatchback on the market, making it possible for many entry-level car owners to comfortably afford it. It has a 1.2L petrol engine, pushing out a fuel economy of 5.0L/100km.

Suzuki Celerio (from R174 900 new)

As an entry-level car, you may not expect much from the Celerio. But the brand actually has three variants available, with two manual transmissions and one automated manual transmission gearbox. To match its low price tag, you can reach a fuel economy of 4.2L/100km.

Hyundai Atos (from R190 900 new)

The Atos may be much smaller than anticipated, but it gives consumers several standout features. Its 1.1L petrol engine is available in both manual and automated manual transmission. What you see is what you get with the Atos, and it delivers on its fuel consumption of 5.5L/100km.

Sensible Sedans

The traditional look of a sedan still has a place in today’s world. While hatchbacks are niftier and SUVs offer larger designs, the sedan remains a family unit car. It can easily fit in full occupancy without passengers feeling cramped.

Suzuki Dzire (from R189 900 new)

Suzuki specialises in more than affordable hatchbacks and performing all-wheel drives with its Dzire. The range currently carries three variants, each with a 1.2L engine, all in 5-speed transmission gearboxes. The variants are all in petrol but have a good 4.9L.100km fuel consumption rate.

Kia Pegas (from R238 995)

The Kia Pegas is slightly more expensive than most of its segment competitors, but the price tag is justifiable with all its extras available. The range has 1.4L petrol engines that can achieve a fuel economy of 5.7/100km. There are also three variants available in both manual and automatic transmission gearboxes, depending on your pick.

Nissan Almera (from R283 000 new)

One of the most expensive sedans on the market is the Almera, which can dissuade customers from purchasing the vehicle. However, the brand and model itself have had a facelift in recent years but maintained their reliability and easy handling. With two variants currently available, you can buy between its 1.5L petrol engine in manual or automatic transmission. The average fuel economy rate is much higher, with 6.3L/100km upwards.

Economical SUVs

People often associate SUVs with being overly priced, which can deter many from even enquiring about the less expensive ones on the market. However, the SUV category is growing exponentially despite this because these vehicles have much to offer the average consumer. From hard-driving capabilities to its additional space and its rugged exteriors.

Suzuki S-Presso (from R156 900 new)

Suzuki brings to market a reliable SUV with its compact S-Presso. There are five variants, all with a 1.0L engine and both manual and automated manual transmission. Surprisingly, it has a 4.9L/100km fuel economy rate which is rare to find in these types of vehicles.

Mahindra KUV100 (from R172 999 new)

The Mahindra KUV100 may not be a car you automatically associate with high-performing SUVs, but it does give consumers variety. There are seven variants available in petrol and diesel 1.2L engines. The brand boasts a claimed 4.3L/100km fuel economy and a 5-speed manual transmission gearbox dominating the range.

Renault Kiger (from R204 900 new)

With the brand sporting a new look Kiger, you can enjoy its exceptional design and power at a reasonable price. There are six variants, ranging in 1.0L engines and manual, automated manual and clutch-variable transmission gearboxes. According to Renault, consumers can achieve an average of 5.4L/100km fuel economy rate between its driving modes.

The thing about dream cars is that it differs for everyone. In South Africa, consumers are all on different levels of the pay scale, meaning most usually prefer to shop within their means. When it comes to car shopping, this is no different. While a luxury sports car may appeal to some, a dependable city car may be what you really look forward to owning one day.

All our second hand cars for sale listed in this informative article are here for their reputations and affordability to the average car buyer. Shop these and more from our extensive range with Motus Select.

Can China's T60 Bakkie Stand Out in SA's Rich Bakkie Market?

Can China's T60 Bakkie Stand Out in SA's Rich Bakkie Market?

Bakkies galore—owning one has become a South African rite of passage. These vehicles are made for those seeking reliability, powerful performance, and exceptional value for money. But with so many formidable contenders already in the ring, it can be difficult for newcomers to make their debut.

British-founded, LDV is up for the challenge and is ready to add to the bakkies for sale selection in South Africa. Launching the incredibly fierce Chinese-owned T60, this bakkie has promise. But does it have what it takes to dominate our diverse landscape against the likes of the Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger, or Isuzu D-Max?

Exploring the New: LDV and the T60

Originally British, Leyland DAF Vehicles (LDV) have made a name for themselves globally. Their success story includes world-renowned brands such as MG and Maxus. But despite its supremacy abroad, it is a relatively new brand for us South Africans.

LDV South Africa plans to go live in a few weeks with a full line-up of T60 double bakkies. The range is expected to carry 2.0-litre bi-turbo diesel engines that come in manual and automated transmission options.

The car manufacturer's strategic decision to launch the T60 bakkie shows they have done their homework as they set out to capitalise on South Africa’s bakkie-loving nation.

Admiring the Timeless: The Toyota Hilux

The Toyota Hilux continues to lead the charge, making it one of our best-selling bakkies to date. It is often the first choice for most customers because the brand has established itself as reliable and efficient in every way possible.

The latest generation comes fitted with diesel engines that go up to a whopping 4.0 litres and is available in both manual and automatic transmission. It has a reasonable 10.7 litres per 100 km fuel consumption rate. There are also 4x2 and 4x4 drivetrain options to suit your needs and lifestyle.

Respecting the Classics: The Ford Ranger

Next up is the ferocious Ford Ranger, which brings the heat to the bakkie market. Navigating tough terrain or traffic is a breeze in this highly dependable vehicle. Trailing closely behind the Toyota Hilux, this bakkie is available in five variants in the latest generation.

It is currently equipped with a standard 2.0-litre bio-turbo diesel engine with a consumption rate of 8.0 litres per 100km. Like the Toyota, it is also offered in 4x2 and 4x4 derivatives, depending on the customer’s choice.

Embracing the Old: The Isuzu D-Max

The Isuzu D-Max firmly secures its place alongside the likes of the mighty Hilux and Ranger. It’s a well-deserved accolade, in our opinion, with a diverse four-variant range that carries several models to consider.

Fitted with a 3.0-litre diesel engine, manual and automated options. The average fuel economy rate of the D-Max is approximately 7.9 litres per 100 km, making it fairly economical in the long run.

Concluding Thoughts

With much to consider, it is clear that while the T60 bakkie has a tremendous challenge ahead, it certainly brings a new level of competition to our market. The brand promises market-related pricing, robust features, and modern design to rival the very best of our bakkies on offer currently.

The T60 has the unique opportunity to make a name for itself and carve out its place alongside our already well-established contenders. With so much variety, shopping bakkies for sale in South Africa can prove to be a tough task. Motus Select takes out the middleman, bringing you the lowest prices and highest quality.

Step into the elite league of SA’s iconic bakkies for sale when you shop old or new at Motus Select.

Toyota Urban Cruiser

Toyota Urban Cruiser

Toyota is pleased to welcome the Urban Cruiser to its model line-up. Building on the success of the outgoing model, the new Urban Cruiser gives customers more including improved interior space, an improved road presence thanks to Toyota inspired styling cues, as well as an improved list of standard and safety features.

Striking exterior design

Familiar design cues such as the clamshell bonnet, slim headlights and gaping lower grille remain and show its relation to other members of the Toyota SUV family, while the Urban Cruiser has grown in every direction.

The newcomer features bi-halogen projector headlamps lower in the face inset within the bumper and framed by a chrome bezel. The slimline LED DRLs now become the focal points, splitting into two with a chrome strip in between that merges into the piano black grille. A massive lower grille aperture with honeycomb design combines with a silver ornamental skid plate upping the aggression factor.

The silhouette reinforces its SUV credentials with increased length, a high belt line and gently sloping roof. Like the Fortuner, use of blacked out pillars lends the appearance of a floating roof. Bulging squared-off wheel arches and silver roof rails add an air of ruggedness. At the rear ultra-slim C-shaped LED taillights are inset with a black panel which is in turn overlayed by a pale silver garnish. A roof spoiler and decorative silver skid plate round off the rear.

Inside story

The interior is an aesthetically pleasing mix of fabrics and features. The predominantly black cabin features subtle touches of silver including the satin-plated trim inserts, chrome door handles and metallic-tipped ventilation controls. High-quality black striated cloth upholstery features throughout the interior.

The redesigned dashboard houses an easy to read seven-inch infotainment screen which features Android Auto and wireless Apple CarPlay. The instrument nacelle houses a pair of grey-bezelled analogue clocks that also incorporate a new colour TFT display.

Convenience features include Push Start with Smart Entry and rear PDC. The driver’s seat is now height adjustable and electric folding mirrors, reverse camera and auto-controlled air conditioning are standard on both grades.

Under the bonnet

The Urban Cruiser is fitted with the familiar 1.5-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine that offers 77kW and 138Nm which allows for a top speed of 170 or 175km/h for the manual or automatic respectively. Buyers can choose between a five-speed manual transmission or a four-speed automatic on the XR grade. Fuel consumption for both derivatives is a frugal 6,1 litres per 100km on the combined cycle.

The Urban Cruiser rides on MacPherson struts at the front and a torsion beam at the rear, a set up that is perfectly calibrated for all driving conditions to provide a pliant ride that strikes a balance between control and comfort.

Improved safety features

The Urban Cruiser is now fitted with Vehicle Stability Control and Hill Assist Control. Inside a rear centre headrest along with a third rear ELR seatbelt improves safety for the fifth passenger. XR models gain side and curtain airbags in addition to the standard driver and passenger airbags. ABS with EBD, Isofix and an alarm/immobilizer system is standard on all models.
