Mahindra goes from strength to strength in South Africa

Mahindra’s growth can be attributed to a variety of factors including an exciting line up of fresh products as well as a variety of local investments.

Sales of Mahindra bakkies and SUVs jumped by over 600 units in March to 2253 vehicles, setting a new all-time record and welcoming Mahindra into the elusive 2000 unit per month club. This makes Mahindra the eighth largest manufacturer in South Africa.

This new record is thanks to growth across the vehicle sectors with Mahindra breaking its own high scores in terms of bakkies and SUVs during March.

What makes this performance even more impressive is the fact that it is being done with a limited product line up, with Mahindra focusing on offering core SUV and bakkie models to South African motorists.

In the past year, the group has broken ground for a brand-new manufacturing facility at the Dube Tradeport in Durban, which is set to replace the current Pik Up assembly facility and allow for a production capacity in excess of 1 000 units per month.

Mahindra also recently took occupation of a new parts distribution warehouse and training facility in Midrand, Gauteng, that more than doubles the group’s holding capacity of parts and components.

XUV 3XO 

The XUV 3XO is Mahindra’s latest addition to the compact SUV segment and features a standout design, a premium interior, a truly comfortable ride, and a high level of safety while retaining a very competitive price point.

All derivatives are powered by a turbocharged petrol engine that delivers 82kW and 200Nm of torque and which can be paired with either a six-speed automatic transmission or a six-speed manual transmission.

XUV700 

Packing an unmissable presence, spirited performance, world-class safety and sci-fi technology, the XUV700 set the direction for Mahindra’s latest SUV line up when it was launched at the end of 2022, featuring advanced engineering, the latest in technology and excellent build quality.

The XUV700 is offered in three variants, all fitted with a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine and a six-speed automatic transmission.

The interior is dominated by a new super screen, a combination of two high-definition 26cm digital screens that form the digital cluster and infotainment systems.

Scorpio N

The Mahindra Scorpio-N is a large, bold sophisticated SUV laden with safety and technology. The interior features top-notch craftmanship and an advanced infotainment system.

The Scorpio-N is built on a third-generation body-on-frame platform and boasts class-leading structural rigidity, off-road capability and exemplary on-road manners. The Scorpio-N is powered by an mHawk diesel engine, offering 129kW and 400Nm, offered with a six-speed automatic transmission and optional 4x4.

Locally built bakkie continues to impress

Mahindra continues to perform well in the bakkie sales charts, consistently ranking amongst the top five in the light commercial vehicle market. A big contributor to this performance is the locally assembled Pik Up, which consistently sells in excess of 1000 units per month.

Mahindra’s bakkie range kicks off with the Bolero, a versatile light commercial vehicle that combines spaciousness with the features of a reliable workhorse. Pricing starts at R215 999.

The biggest contributor to sales volumes is the locally assembled Pik Up, which is available in both single and double cab derivatives.

A restyled Mahindra signature front grille with chrome inserts, dual projector headlamps, an integrated air-scoop in the bonnet and tough wrap around bumpers ensure attractive styling along with its working credentials.

Single cab models are designed to be strong and practical, offering all the power needed to get the job done. A large load box offers a maximum payload of 1200kg.

Under the bonnet is a 2.2-litre, four-cylinder mHawk turbodiesel engine that offers 103kW and 320Nm and which is paired to a six-speed transmission. A mechanical locking differential further enhances off-road capabilities.
