Let’s get out of town: Kia Sorento or Hyundai Staria

The two most popular style of holiday vehicles for families are SUVs and MPVs and comparing two of the main contenders in the form of the Kia Sorento and the Hyundai Staria is a great way of helping motorists determine which is the best type of vehicle for their needs.

The new motus.cars advertising campaign showcases that whatever car you’re searching for, you can find it on motus.cars and is centred around lifestyle choices and milestones. One of the key messages of this campaign is “Let’s get out of town” and highlights vehicles which are perfect for those motorists who enjoy road trips with their family.

Motorists looking for a vehicle that allows them to get out of town have a wide variety of models and body shapes to choose from. The two most popular style of holiday vehicles for families are SUVs and MPVs and comparing two of the main contenders in the form of the Kia Sorento and the Hyundai Staria is a great way of helping motorists determine which is the best type of vehicle for their needs.

While these vehicles are similar in terms of pricing and size, they do offer some unique features that could make your getaway that much more enjoyable.

The case for the Kia Sorento

The fourth generation of Kia’s large family SUV is designed and engineered to take on everything that life throws at it. With new standards for space, efficiency, and quality, the Sorento is the flagship of Kia’s South African SUV line-up.

The exterior has been redefined with sharper lines, high tech details and elongated proportions resulting in a more confident and mature presence. The front evolves with a new interpretation of Kia’s tiger nose grille and LED daytime running lights. In profile the proportions are subtly adapted to make it appear longer. At the rear new vertical tail lamps wrap around the side of the body. Trim on the sporty lower rear bumper embodies the appearance of dual tailpipes and like the front features a skid plate to add to its tough aesthetic.

Inside an attractive cabin introduces premium quality materials, cutting edge infotainment technologies and a stunning new design that provides owners with a more striking, desirable, and comfortable experience. The intuitive, tech-oriented cabin is fitted with premium quality materials and cutting-edge infotainment.

The Sorento is based on Kia’s this generation N3 platform which provides superior space for people and cargo through intelligent packaging.

The Kia Sorento is an attractively styled SUV that boasts a spacious interior with high quality finishes and seating for up to seven passengers. Although with all seven seats in place loading space is somewhat limited. With the third-row stowed luggage capacity increases to 821 litres, allowing the car to accommodate up to five people in comfort along with a significant amount of luggage. Controls in the side wall of the boot allow users to fold down the second-row seat backs remotely at the touch of a button. The new platform maximises space in all three rows, offering more head, leg, and shoulder room than many rivals.

The 2.2-litre Smartstream diesel engine produces 148kW and 440Nm of torque and is paired with Kia’s new eight-speed wet double clutch transmission which is designed to offer the smooth shifting characteristics of a conventional automatic as well as enhanced fuel-efficiency. Performance is excellent and the Sorento returns a very respectable fuel economy figure of as low as 6.8 litres per 100km.

For those looking to head off the beaten track the Sorento offers good ground clearance and an all-wheel drive system that ensures just about any road can be traversed on your out-of-town journey.

Aided by fully independent suspension the Sorento delivers improved cabin insulation which reduces the effect that road surface imperfections have on the body, noise and vibrations through the suspension and body control and steering responses under cornering. The latest AWD models offer enhanced all-terrain capability thanks to Terrain Mode which carefully controls the cars standard electronic stability control as well as the distribution of torque when navigating tricky terrain such as mud, snow, and sand.

The futuristic Staria

Evoking the streamlined form of a spaceship, the Staria’s sleek exterior is defined by a single stroke running from front to rear, inspired by the curve of light that illuminates the Earth’s horizon when viewed from space. The front is embellished by horizontal daytime running lights and a positioning lamp running across the width of the vehicle. The clean silhouette is further accented by low-set headlamps and Hyundai uses the same body colour for all front parts to maximise the vehicle’s modern and pure style.

Lowered beltlines and panoramic side windows improve overall visibility and create a feeling of openness. The design continues to the rear where a wide window is framed by elongated tail lamps.

The futuristic Staria is certainly eye catching but ultimately the MPV is designed to offer high levels of spaciousness and versatility. Like the Sorento, the cabin offers an array of luxury and safety features and the variety of convenient storage spaces throughout the cabin is most impressive. The cruise ship inspired interior delivers an open and unique atmosphere through its innovative design architecture.

The Staria can comfortably accommodate between 9 and 11 passengers depending on the model. While loading space depends on how many seats are utilised, it certainly does offer high levels of versatility. For example, the rear bench seats can slide forward or backwards to allow for more space which prove extremely practical. For maximum loading space the rear seats can be folded away. When full flat mode is applied to the rear passenger seats the vehicle is perfect for activities that require a lot of room and interior flexibility, such as camping and sports where luggage space is needed for equipment.

Hyundai’s smart infotainment system with an eight-inch touch-screen display is fitted to all derivatives and includes a wide-angle camera rear park assist camera, aided by park warning sensors in both the front and rear bumpers. In Luxury versions the screen also displays a bird’s eye view of the car and its surroundings.

The Staria is fitted with a 2.2-litre VGT turbodiesel engine that offers 130kW and 430Nm. Power is transferred to the front wheels via an eight-speed automatic gearbox. For an MPV performance proved excellent while fuel consumption of 8.7 litres per 100km is acceptable given the vehicles size.

Ride quality is great too, but the Staria unfortunately does not offer the go anywhere capabilities of the Sorento.

The Staria offers the highest levels of passive an active vehicle safety thanks to six airbags and three-point seat belts and headrests on all seats as well as smart features such as Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Forward Collision Avoidance Assist, Blind-Spot Collision Avoidance Assist in top of the range derivatives.

Which is better suited for your next road trip

So, which one is better suited for your next road trip, the Kia Sorento or the Hyundai Staria? Both vehicles are similarly priced in both the new and pre-owned market.

Ultimately making the right choice for your journey or current lifestyle depends on your specific needs and preferences. If you are looking for the spaciousness of a seven-seater SUV with the ability to go just about anywhere, the Sorento might be the right choice for you. If you prioritise versatility and space, the Staria might be the better option. Either way, both vehicles are great choices for a fun and memorable road trip with your loved ones.

Nissan Leads the Way with Next-Gen Safety Features in 2024

Automotive innovation is one safety sphere that continues to grow each year. More and more consumers are looking for unmatched versatility, value, and security in their vehicles. Our range of Nissans for sale meets this need, with the iconic brand’s commitment to advancing safety features across its lineup of cars.

Nissan is redefining what safety means to drivers at an affordable price point. Here’s how they are setting new benchmarks for passenger cars around the world:

Braking Brilliance

Depending on your Nissan car of choice, you may have access to features such as automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection. This feature provides you with instant alerts that work systematically to avoid potential collisions, brake automatically, and protect pedestrians around you.

Additionally, there is also rear automatic braking functionality on certain models. This warns you of potential hazards behind your vehicle to reduce rear-end accidents.

Alert and Aware

Nissan promotes safe driving with its selection of systems, designed to give you additional support when you need it most. For example, its rear cross-traffic alert will timely alert you about approaching cars behind you, which may lead to unsafe manoeuvres.

Next up, you have a blind spot warning on certain models, which gives you an extra set of eyes on the road. This feature will provide you with instant alerts for vehicles that are in your blind spot, making changing lanes easier and safer.

Proactive Protection

Unintended lane changes can be disastrous for you and other road users. But with the help of Nissan’s lane departure warning system, you can breathe a little easier. Used in conjunction with safe driving practices, this will alert you as soon as you cross lanes accidentally.

Lastly, the high beam assist offered on certain models gives you much-needed illumination. This feature aims to provide optimal visibility of your surroundings without feeling harsh or forced onto other road users.

Navigating traffic through congested roads and busy intersections can be a challenge for any one of us. Especially with so many cars on the road today, plus untimely pedestrians, inconvenient road construction work, and potholes to dodge, you sure can do it with a helping hand.

Final Call! Snatch Up the 2023 Kia Rio Before it's Too Late

Final Call! Snatch Up the 2023 Kia Rio Before it's Too Late

As the saying goes, “All good things must come to an end," and the Kia Rio is no exception. The South Korean car brand announced its departure from our sunny shores last year, a trend we have seen with other hatchbacks such as the Nissan Micra or Ford Fiesta previously. It’s understandably a popular car, with personality-packed design and convenient features to improve every journey; it’s an almost perfect hatch, in our opinion.

This compact car is quickly speeding off our showroom floors, and here’s why:

City-Slick and Stylish

Hatchbacks have come a long way, from cheap materials to lacklustre design. You’ll find high-end craftsmanship today, from chrome finishes to meticulously trimmed seating. The Kia Rio is one example of this move towards modern, improved interiors with standard features such as its 8-inch touchscreen. Standout exteriors give off a contemporary look with distinctive sport-like accents.

More than that, the brand has always boasted an impressive fuel economy rate across its lineup. The Kia Rio has been no exception, with an astoundingly low 6.0 litres per 100km.

Inspired Ingenuity

The Kia Rio is equipped with several features that are not only convenient but also innovative. USB ports, Bluetooth functionality, and smartphone integration make for seamless connections on the go. Further, it has safety systems that support your every move. These include rain-sensing wipers, cruise control, and park distance control on certain models.

Kia has had to contend with different misconceptions about hatchbacks for years, especially because they produce exceptional cars. For one, people assume that because the majority of hatchbacks are more affordable than other types of vehicles, they have less value to offer. But it’s clear that the 2023 Kia Rio begs to differ.

For South African drivers, the Kia Rio has easily taken first place as the go-to hatchback choice of many. It has effortlessly brought together style, performance, and innovation, all while remaining exceptionally affordable. Its fuel efficiency and stealthy handling make it a smart choice, another reason why it has done so well to date.

As demand in the second-hand market grows, Motus Select makes it clear: the Kia Rio will remain legendary in our market.

Award Winning Safety: Family Trips with C-Class Confidence

Award Winning Safety: Family Trips with C-Class Confidence

Family is everything, and ensuring they are well-cared for and safe is likely your highest priority. That’s where the safety features of a Mercedes Benz for sale come into play. This world-renowned brand has become known for its indulgent interiors, excellent engine performance, and a resolute reputation that has stood the test of time.

Their C-Class models, the C180, C200, and C220, are all fine examples of their exceptional safety-focused approach to car-making.

Let’s take a closer look at how these cars fare when it comes to your family’s safety.

Proactive Protection

First up is the innovative Pre-Safe® system, which is an optional add-on in the C-Class range. In the C180, this feature keeps you alert and aware, helping you avoid potential collisions. Seat belts are automatically tightened, and the front passenger seat is adjusted to a safer position—even the windows and panoramic sunroofs are closed.

One standard feature you will find in the Mercedes-Benz C200 is the active brake assist, which is a highly supportive system. This monitors traffic conditions and will alert you to potential collisions in your path. Additionally, if you do not respond quickly, the system will automatically apply brakes to mitigate an accident.

Another standard feature found in the C220 is the blind spot assist. This is especially helpful when there is heavy traffic on the highway. It will alert you to vehicles in your blind spot using its radar system that detects non-visible cars and gives you audible warnings to respond appropriately.

Economically Efficient

Car shopping with family in mind requires options that are tailored for every journey. The C-Class range is designed with just this in mind, allowing you to switch up the city for the school holidays as you please.

The Mercedes-Benz C180 is a worthwhile consideration if you are looking for pocket-friendly performance. It has several variants on the market to choose from, but the latest models include a turbocharged engine in both petrol and diesel options. Fuel economy is where it excels, with average consumption rates achieving an astounding low of 6.8L.

Then we have the C200, made to drive through the city and explore the countryside. It gives you responsive handling, fuel efficiency, and the extra power you need. This sedan is available in several derivatives, but you can expect a four-cylinder petrol or diesel engine on newer models. Reaching top speeds of almost 246 km/h, it does well with an impressive 6.8L/100km fuel consumption rate on average.

For balanced versatility with a powerful engine, the C220 is the way to go. It has a diesel engine, a smooth 9-speed automated transmission gearbox, and 147 kW/440 Nm of torque in the latest range. The variants also notably achieve an exceptional fuel economy rate of 7.1 L/100 km on average.

Capably Confident

Safety first, performance second, and comfort coming in third place are all keys to a good family vehicle. The C-Class range at Motus Select checks all the boxes by providing a luxurious experience for every passenger.

This is based on two aspects: comfort and convenience. Spacious interiors, ample cargo storage, and legroom across the C180, C200, and C220 will ensure your family travels in comfort, no matter the journey.

Lastly, the advanced infotainment systems throughout the C-Class range offer convenient features for the whole family. High-resolution displays, instinctive controls, and several connectivity options promise that every trip will be enjoyable.

Adaptable All-Rounders

The Mercedes-Benz brand may not exude the aggressiveness of some family-favourite SUVs (Sports Utility Vehicles) or bakkies, but they are exceptionally agile and responsive. For families who enjoy comfort, luxury, and safety, the C-Class range is the ideal selection of cars to shop from.

The C180 is an excellent choice for families seeking an economical yet capable vehicle. Its turbocharged engine delivers outstanding fuel efficiency while maintaining impressive performance. It is the ideal companion for those quick weekends away, for a break from the bustling city.

The C200 offers a superb balance of power and efficiency. Its robust engine provides more horsepower than the C180, catering to those who enjoy a lively driving experience. The C200 is adaptable to various driving conditions, making it a versatile option for more adventurous families.

For thrill-seeking families, the C220 is the better fit. Its more powerful engine and enhanced torque ensure that it can tackle diverse terrains with ease. Despite its impressive performance, the C220 maintains excellent fuel efficiency, offering a practical and exciting driving experience as you travel to the quieter attractions around the country.

When it comes to choosing the right vehicle for your family, you need to consider more than just looks and performance. You need to ensure that every drive is safe and comfortable. The Mercedes-Benz C-Class range offers you award-winning safety and luxurious comforts, making it the perfect choice for peace of mind on South African roads.

Ready to elevate your family trips with a Mercedez Benz for sale? Experience premium safety with Motus Select’s excellent C-Class collection.
