Hyundai has boosted its offering with a stylish and attractive compact SUV in the form of the all-new Hyundai Exter.

The all-new Exter is well equipped with a full arsenal of features and very attractive design elements, attributes that are needed as a contender in the fiercely competitive SUV market.

The Exter features a progressive and unique crossover design that showcases Hyundai’s Sensuous Sportiness identity, and which is characterised by a modern front, dynamic side and sporty rear design. Hyundai’s DNA is evident in the front grille design and in the positioning of the daytime running lights that comprise of LEDs in a signature H-shape, above the halogen headlights. This design is repeated in the rear lights and a dynamic rear spoiler sits on top.

Bold and muscular wheel arch cladding, distinctively carved character lines and a parametric garnish on the C-pillar lend a fresh appeal to the car’s profile.

A front and rear silver skid plate adds to the bold and sporty design and Executive and Elite versions ride on 15-inch diamond cut alloy wheels while Premium models feature 15-inch wheels with dSpaciousynamic wheel covers. Sporty bridge type roof rails have a 70kg load capacity.

Ground clearance of 185mm, along with generous 15-inch wheels gives the Exter the ability to tackle excursions onto gravel with relative ease, well-equipped interior.

The interior of the Hyundai Exter features a sporty 3D pattern dashboard, leather wrapped steering wheel and gear knob and a sporty black finish with coloured inserts.

Seat covers are either obsidian black with a grey trim, black with a blue trim or black with a sage trim linked with various exterior colours. Premium and Executive variants are fitted with cloth seats while Elite versions come standard with a mixture of cloth and artificial leather material.

Good ergonomics are complimented by driver seat height adjustment, adjustable rear headrests, a dashboard tray, front console dual cup holders and front and rear door map pockets.

The latest technology features include a type C USB fast charger, rear air conditioner vents, automatic temperature control and steering wheel mounted paddle shifters on Executive AMT and Elite versions, steering mounted audio and trip computer controls on Premium derivatives and cruise control on Executive and Elite versions.

Ahead of the driver is a 4.2-inch colour TFT multi-information display and this is complimented by a centrally mounted infotainment system with eight-inch high-definition touch screen onto which smartphone mirroring via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is possible.

High levels of standard safety

The Hyundai Exter features a strong body structure comprising of the extensive application of advanced and high strength steel which creates a safe environment for occupants. This is complimented by six airbags including dual front, side and curtain airbags, an electronic stability programme on Premium and Executive AMT variants and the Elite and Hill assist Control as well as three-point seatbelts for all occupants, child seat anchors and ABS with EBD.

Under the bonnet

All Hyundai Exter models are fitted with a fuel efficient 1.2-litre Kappa four-cylinder petrol engine that offers 61kW at 6000rpm and 114Nm at 4 000rpm. This engine can be paired with either a five-speed manual transmission or an automated manual transmission also with five ratios. Hyundai claim a frugal fuel consumption figure of 5,7 litres per 100km on manual models and 5,9 litres per 100km on AMT derivatives.

The Exter rides on McPherson struts upfront with coil springs and a coupled torsion beam axle at the rear which offers balanced ride and handling across all road conditions.
