Geely relaunches with two electrified models

The Geely brand has launched in South Africa with a line-up that includes two SUVs featuring new energy drivetrains, the all-electric Geely E5 and the plug-in hybrid Geely E5 EM-i.

A modern, minimalist, exterior

The Geely E5 features a monolithic yet minimalist exterior where gentle, purposeful body lines create a powerful visual presence. The entire exterior has been sculpted to optimise airflow and efficiency, resulting in an extremely low drag coefficient of 0.288 cd.

Upfront the E5 EM-i is defined by an intricate, layered headlight signature that incorporates 264 LEDs. At the rear a LED light bar, made up of 369 individual LEDs, runs the entire width of the rear end, reinforcing the model’s futuristic identity.

A premium, comfortable, interior

An exterior that measures an extensive 4 615mm results in an interior that is roomy for both the driver and front passenger as well as for rear seat passengers. A large, 461-litre boot is expandable to 1 877 litres by folding the rear seats down.

The interior is premium and thoughtfully designed while a snowy white and dark blue colour theme reinforces the minimalistic aesthetic.

Front seats feature ventilation and massaging functionilty, and the rear passenger seats are reclinable, further improving passenger comfort.

The dashboard is home to a 15.4-inch high-definition touchscreen and ahead of the driver is a 10.2-inch LCD instrument cluster.

A fully electric drivetrain

The Geely E5 is powered by a 11 in 1 electric drive system paired with an advanced next-generation battery system that offers 160kW and 320Nm and allows for a 0-100km/h sprint time of 6,9 seconds. Aspire models boast a range of 410km while Apex models can travel 430km on a single charge. 1.8C rapid charging enables the battery to be recharged from 30 to 80% in just 20 minutes.

A well sorted chassis paired with independent suspension ensures a poised balance between confident handling and refined ride comfort.

Geely E5 EM-i plug-in hybrid

The Geely E5 EM-i is powered by a plug-in hybrid drivetrain that delivers a smooth, EV-like driving experience along with the benefits of flexibility and range assurance.

The hybrid powertrain utilises a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 73kW and 125Nm. In addition a sophisticated 11 in 1 electric drive unit adds an additional 160kW and 262Nm. The EM-i super hybrid system intelligently blends petrol and electric power for optimal performance and efficiency, resulting in a possible driving range of up to 943km.

Five-star safety

The Geely E5 boasts a five-star Euro NCAP rating thanks to the standard fitment of L2 level intelligent driving assistance and an integrated suite of ADAS technologies that includes Automatic Emergency Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, Intelligent Cruise Control and Lane Keeping Assist.

Model range and pricing

Pricing includes a six-year/150 000km vehicle warranty, an eight-year/200 000km battery warranty and five-years roadside assistance on all models. The E5 EM-i is covered by a five-year/75 000km service plan and the E5 by a six-year/120 000km service plan.

A wall box charger along with R10 000 in free public charging is included with the purchase of an E5 model.
