The Ford brand remains a South African favourite that enjoys a rich heritage in South Africa. This heritage has been cultivated by offering cars that appeal to South Africans, decades of motorsport participation and a history of local production.
Ford’s legacy was built around iconic models like the Escort, Capri, Sierra and Granada with owners of these nameplates as passionate as any and willing to defend their marque tenaciously around the braaivleis fire.
A focussed vehicle line up
Ford’s line up is not as extensive as it once was but still offers numerous iconic nameplates as well as models with a strong commercial vehicle focus.
The current Ford passenger car offering includes the new Mustang GT, Mustang Dark Horse and Tourneo Custom.
For fans of SUVs, Ford offers three models including the compact Puma, with a starting price of R573 500, the mid-sized Ford Territory with a starting price of R593 500 and the large Ford Everest with a starting price of R942 000.
Ford’s biggest market is undoubtedly their Ranger and they offer nine different derivatives to cater for all customer needs and budgets. This includes the Ranger XL Single Cab and Ranger Double Cab with a starting price of R574 000 or the Ranger XL Super Cab with a starting price of R585 500.
Models like the Ranger Wildtrak, Wildtrak X and Ranger Tremor add off-road specific equipment and specification while the Ranger Platinum, priced at R1 150 000 features numerous luxury appointments.
The top of the range Ford Ranger Raptor offers unrivalled performance and off-road ability thanks to a powerful V6 engine and a suspension setup sourced from the world of motorsport.
Vehicles that are ready to work
Ford’s Ranger line-up includes a variety of models with a commercial vehicle focus, such as the aforementioned Single and Super cab derivatives as well as a variety of other models that are ready to work. This includes the Transit Custom panel van and Tourneo Custom people carrier. The Transit van is the brands big load carrier that doesn't shy away from even the largest load.
A legacy of local production
Ford continue to produce vehicles locally, with their Silverton manufacturing facility, located outside Pretoria now building Ford Ranger’s for local and export consumption.
In November last year Ford South Africa notched up a significant achievement by leading the vehicle exports for the month and recording its highest monthly sales volume in more than three years, which placed it fourth overall on the domestic sales charts.
A total of 10 574 Rangers were exported from Ford’s Silverton manufacturing plant in November – the highest figure achieved to date for the current-generation Ranger which was launched in December 2022.
