Car Service And Repair Resolutions To Keep In 2021

There's something transformative about the change of seasons or the start of a new year, and even more so when the clock strikes midnight on the last day of December and we enter a brand new year. People want to turn a new leaf, be better and do better than they did in the previous year. Being more responsible and taking better care of yourself and the things you've worked hard to obtain is never a bad idea, so why not add a few New Year's Resolutions for your car this January?

Keep your car in the best condition it can be by setting goals for car service and repair schedule for the next 12 months. Here are the main aspects to focus on.

Keep Your Car Clean, Inside And Out

Mark a recurring date in your calendar every two weeks to either wash and clean your car yourself or to take it to a car wash for a thorough rinse, wipe down and detailing. You won't just feel much better driving around in a shiny, clean car, but frequent cleaning will keep the condition of your car's paintwork and interior looking great for longer.

Check Your Car's Fluids Frequently

It's easy to forget how long it's been since your car's various fluid levels and quality have been checked. Everything from engine oil to transmission fluid and brake fluid ensures that your car operates properly and safely. Schedule regular dates into your calendar so you'll remember to have these checked by a professional.

Go For A Routine Checkup In July Or When Needed

Depending on if you still have a service plan or if you've recently had a service, it's a good idea to take your car in to be checked by an auto specialist, as a lot can happen between service intervals. This may seem like an unnecessary expense, but it may just alert you of problems before they get worse and end up costing you a lot more to fix in the aftermath of a breakdown. Also set yourself the resolution to get your car checked at any point where a weird noise pops up, a shake arises or unusual smell. This year, promise yourself and your prized car to not hold off on check-ups but to be proactive.

Learn Fundamental Car Maintenance Skills

Considering that people drive their cars daily, wouldn't it make sense to know the bare basics about what to do when you run into trouble or if your car needs a small fix or part replacement? Take some time to watch a few YouTube videos on how to change a tyre, how to replace spark plugs and air filters, and also learn how to identify some of the most common signs that something's wrong with your car.

Ready to give your car the best possible treatment in 2021 and make use of only the best car service and repair services available?

Contact us for friendly, swift assistance - we have service and repair workshops all around the country. At Motus Select, we'll assist you in keeping those car resolutions intact and actioned throughout 2021!

Don’t neglect these essential fluids

Don’t neglect these essential fluids

There are certain fluids that are essential to the optimal running of your vehicle and these six fluids need to be checked regularly to ensure that your vehicle performs as it should.

Keeping your car in a good condition requires more than just regular washing, it is what is going on under the bonnet that is important. There are certain fluids that are essential to the optimal running of your vehicle and these six fluids need to be checked regularly to ensure that your vehicle performs as it should.

Engine oil

Engine oil should be changed in line with the manufacturers recommended service intervals and at least once a year if you are driving less than the recommended oil change intervals. On some cars the requirement for an oil change is determined by the onboard computer, which takes into account a variety of parameters, including how the car is driven, to determine when the oil needs changing.  The primary role of engine oil is to lubricate the many moving parts within your engine and prevent abnormal wear and tear. If oil is not changed regularly, friction builds up between the moving parts which then causes your engine to work harder than what it should. Regular oil and oil filter changes are a sure way to prolong the life of your car’s engine.

Oil also plays a role in fuel consumption, emissions and overall efficiency. If your car requires a top up of engine oil between services, it is important to top up with the same oil as which the engine was filled. Different oils contain different additives which do not all work well together when mixed.

Gearbox oil

Gearbox oil on both manual and automatic cars prevents gears from grinding and minimises metal to metal contact within your gearbox. Gearbox oil is not a fluid you want to neglect as inadequate levels can permanently damage your gearbox and end in a costly repair bill. While gearbox oil is one of the most difficult to periodically check as modern gearboxes have no dipstick, the level should never drop noticeably between changes. If you notice any leaks on your paving or garage floor, the vehicle should be booked in for an inspection by a specialist as soon as possible. It is also a good idea to ask your workshop to check the gearbox oil when the vehicle is booked in for a service.

Coolant

Coolant or antifreeze is tasked with keeping your engine within a certain operating temperature and preventing overheating. It is also responsible for lubricating moving parts such as the water pump. Check the coolant level of your vehicle when the vehicle is cold by ensuring that the level is between the minimum and maximum marks on the coolant bottle. Again the cooling systems on modern cars are a closed system and your car shouldn't lose coolant, but leaks can occur. Be sure to never open the bottle when the car is warm as the system is pressurised when warm and you could burn and allow a lot of the coolant to escape. Coolant also deteriorates and is susceptible to build up over time and should thus be replaced by a professional every few years. Never fill your car with tap water, but, if necessary, top it up with the correct coolant for your car or with distilled water.

Brake fluid

Brake fluid is often overlooked but is critical to your safety and safe stopping. A drop in the brake fluid level can indicate a variety of factors including worn brake pads as the fluid from the reservoir keeps the system full as the friction material on the pads wears down and this is normal. However, a very low brake fluid level could indicate a leak which should be rectified as a matter of urgency.

Brake fluid is also hydroscopic, which means that it absorbs water over time, which degrades its properties. It is therefore important to have your brake fluid flushed and replaced every few years. Again it is important to use the correct brake fluid for your specific car and this work is best carried out by a professional.

Power steering fluid

Your cars power steering uses fluid to make the turning process easier. This fluid creates a hydraulic link between the steering wheel and front wheels and lubricates moving parts in this system. Neglecting to maintain this fluid will not only make it difficult to steer the car, but it can also affect other parts of the steering system, which could lead to costly repairs. The power steering fluid has its own reservoir under the bonnet, where the fluid level can be monitored.

Windscreen washer fluid

It is also important to keep your windscreen washer fluid topped up. This can be done with boiled water from the kettle that has been left to cool and motorists can even add detergents that have been developed especially for this application. The ability to clean your windscreen with fluid when driving in dusty conditions or on a long road trip can be crucial for maintaining visibility and safety.

Conclusion

Apart from windscreen washer fluid and of course petrol and diesel your car shouldn't consume any other fluids, however it is important to keep an eye on all the above fluids because their loss will indicate an issue that can very quickly escalate into a large problem if not attended to correctly.

Ford’s Ranger Wildtrak X is built to help owners tackle daily adventures and weekend escapes with a host of trail-ready technologies and equipment.

Based on the Wildtrak, the Wildtrak X provides the perfect step towards more extreme adventures without compromising on the luxury and safety that are hallmarks of this high-spec model.

Off-road focused exterior

The exterior of the Wildtrak X is distinguished by a number of features including a new off-road grille featuring integrated auxiliary driving lights and Cyber Orange accent, a steel bash plate, cast aluminium side steps, Wildtrak X badges on the front doors and tailgate, black Ford badges, distinctive Wildtrak lettering across the bonnet and an asphalt black finish for the grille surround, bumper H-bar, wheel lip mouldings, fender vents, mirror caps, door handles and rear bumper.

High-tech interior

The ability to traverse any terrain

The Ford’s Ranger Wildtrak X  boasts a 30mm wider stance that provides an even more stable footprint off-road, while ground clearance is increased by 26mm, boosting the off-road ability.

This was achieved thanks to the fitment of newly-designed 17-inch alloys wrapped in 265/70 R 17 General Grabber AT3 all-terrain tyres complete with bold white lettering. Specially tuned Bilstein Position Sensitive Dampers provide sure-footed performance across a variety of surfaces.

The Wildtrak X features seven driving modes that cover every day and off-road driving including Normal, Eco, Tow, Slippery, Mud/Ruts, Sand and Rock Crawl. This compliments Trail Control, which manages the vehicle’s acceleration and braking when traversing challenging terrain.

Trail Turn Assist helps drivers negotiate tight bends on narrow tracks by applying the brake on the inside rear wheel and thus reducing the turning radius. The system is designed to be used on loose surfaces at speeds under 19km/h and can be activated when the vehicle is engaged in either 4H or 4L and the rear differential is unlocked.

Under the bonnet

The Ford’s Ranger Wildtrak X  is fitted with Ford’s 2.0-litre Bi-Turbo diesel engine that produces 154kW and 500Nm and is matched to a smooth shifting 10-speed automatic transmission.

This WildtrakX is the first 2.0-litre Bi-Turbo model to be fitted with Ford’s on-demand four-wheel drive system that offers four modes including 4A (automatic), 4H for on-road driving, four-wheel drive high-range (4H) and low-range (4L) for more challenging off-road terrain.

Adventure ready

The Ford’s Ranger Wildtrak X  also debuts Ford’s innovative Flexible Rack System, which is available as an option. Hidden in plain sight, it consists of two main components, a sliding load rack that can be locked in five positions along the length of the load bed and folding roof racks that store inside the roof rails when not in use. The system can be adjusted by one person and doesn't require any tools to set up or stow.

The Wildtrak X is also fitted with Ford’s overhead auxiliary switch pack for the seamless fitment of aftermarket accessories. The panel, which is mounted in the headliner is connected to a distribution box and six pre-wired circuits that run throughout the vehicle and can be used to power accessories such as external lights, a compressor and other electrical items.

This compact hatchback was recently treated to a few updates to ensure a fresh look on the outside, as well as several interior improvements and the addition of the Grand i10 sedan to the model range.

If you are looking to get behind the wheel of your first car, the Hyundai Grand i10 is a great choice. This compact hatchback was recently treated to a few updates to ensure a fresh look on the outside, as well as several interior improvements and the addition of the Grand i10 sedan to the model range.

New bold exterior

Upfront an attractive, bigger, wider honeycomb grille spans across the entire front section giving the impression of a bigger car with a wider stance. Boomerang-shaped daytime running lights on Fluid derivatives flanking the grille round off the clean front impression. Fluid models can also be had with a two-tone colour scheme that includes a gloss-black roof.

At the rear horizontal lines have been straightened and the rear lights feature an updated, more harmonious configuration. Fluid derivatives now also boast attractive 15-inch alloy wheels.

The side view remains mostly unchanged apart from new 15-inch alloy wheels for the Fluid derivatives and new 14-inch styled wheel covers for Motion models.

Refreshed interior

The interior of the Grand i10 has been treated to a modern refresh that includes black seats, with red detail, a touch that has also been added to the multi-function steering wheel and air vents. Sedan models feature a mix between black and grey on the front dashboard and inner door trims.

All models are now fitted with an eight-inch touchscreen with much improved resolution, as well as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity and a rear-view camera.

Reliable and efficient engines

The refreshed Grand i10 hatchback is still available with a choice between two petrol engines which includes a three-cylinder 1-litre and a 1.2-litre four-cylinder engine. All sedan derivatives are powered by the 1.2-litre engine.

The 1,0-litre engine used in both the Motion and Fluid hatchback derivatives offers 48,5kW at 5 500rpm and 94Nm at 3 500rpm. The 1.2-litre powerplant, which drives Motion and Fluid versions as well as the sedan offers 61kW at 6 000rpm and 114Nm at 4 000rpm.

Both engines are paired with a five-speed manual gearbox, while the 1.2-litre is also available with a four-speed automatic transmission.

Improved safety

All Grand i10 derivatives are fitted with driver and front passenger airbags, Isofix child seat attachments on the rear seats and pretensioners for the front seat belts. ABS with EBD is also standard on all models.

Exceptional warranty

The Tucson N Line combines the ultimate dynamic design, comfort and advanced features of the regular Tucson with the motorsport inspired styling and attitude of Hyundai’s N Line resulting is a unique combination of a family SUV with N-inspired sportiness.

Hyundai has sharpened its Tucson range with a new flagship model that not only stands out in the SUV crowd, but now offers the surefootedness of all wheel drive traction too.

In addition to sporty styling the Tucson N Line combines the ultimate dynamic design, comfort and advanced features of the regular Tucson with the motorsport inspired styling and attitude of Hyundai’s N Line resulting is a unique combination of a family SUV with N-inspired sportiness.

Sporty styling

Although the Tucson has always been attractive and modern in design, the N-Line version enhances the Tucson styling with a much sportier appearance.

As with the standard Tucson, the N Line trim features prominent geometric patterns known as parametric jewels, giving it a powerful and energetic character. On this model these parametric jewels are displayed elaborately on the grille and have been elaborated with edges, creating additional reflections depending on the angle. The grille which sits taller and is wider now also incorporates the N Line badge.

Under the grille sits a rectangular-shaped bumper and a refined air intake, which is taller and larger than that of the standard Tucson. The bumper, which is replicated at the rear, works harmoniously with the bright silver skid plates. Striking black bezels frame the head lamps.

Most notable is the colour coded fender trim running along the side of the vehicle, the phantom black side mirrors, striking 19-inch alloys, N-Line badging and a slightly revised grille that seamlessly flows into the LED headlight clusters.

At the rear the Tucson N Line is fitted with an aerodynamic spoiler that is larger than that of the standard model and garnished with fins. The lower rear is accentuated by a red reflector band, a silver diffusor and aggressive twin tip exhausts.

Enhanced cabin

The Tucson N Line treatment continues in the cabin with beautiful leather suede combo upholstery and red stitching. Other notable red accents and N-line branding have been added to the gear lever, left side of the dashboard, door panels, centre console and steering wheel.

For a mid-sized SUV, the Tucson remains one of the most spacious vehicles in its class, while boot space measures an equally impressive 539 litres which can be expanded to 1 860 litres with the rear seats folded flat.

Top-class safety

The Hyundai Tucson N-Line is packed with a variety of active and passive safety features, making it one of the safest mid-sized SUV’s that money can buy today. This includes smart cruise control, blind-spot collision avoidance assist, lane departure warning, lane keep and lane follow assist, fatigue detection, forward collision avoidance assist and rear cross traffic alert.

These systems compliment the Isofix child seat attachments, driver, front passenger, side and curtain airbags, LED daytime running lights, three-point inertia seatbelts and side-impact protection beams.

Performance meets economy

Under the bonnet is a 2.0-litre turbocharged CRDi diesel engine that is paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission and H-TRAC all-wheel drive system. The engine offers 137kW and 416Nm of torque. This allows the Tucson to accelerate from 0-100km/h in around nine seconds, while even better news is that it will sip just 6,5 litres per 100km in real world driving conditions.

The Tucson’s advanced HTRAC AWD transmission features a multi-mode system and an electronic, variable torque-split clutch with active torque control between the front and rear axles. Driver selectable Normal, Eco, Sport and Smart drive modes apply specific HTRAC torque distribution settings ensuring confident control across all conditions.

Ride quality is excellent too, with the Tucson N Line riding on an electronically controlled suspension that offers additional flexibility across all road surfaces thanks to adaptive damping technology that takes conditions such as speed, road surfaces and cornering into account and adjusts damping accordingly.

Comprehensive warranty

The Tucson N Line is sold with a seven year/200 000km warranty and a six-year/90 000km service plan. Hyundai also provides seven years of roadside assistance that lets drivers worry more about being their own boss and less about vehicle maintenance.

Conclusion
