The Top Mistakes Drivers Make, According To Vehicle Service Workshops

The Top Mistakes Drivers Make, According To Vehicle Service Workshops

Do you consider yourself a good driver? If so, then you probably think you take good care of your car, too. You make sure it's cleaned, take it for servicing when required and always allow the petrol attendants at the station to check your oil and water. You also make sure it's checked out before every long trip. That's all you need to do, right? Unfortunately, it's not. Every day the Motus Select car service workshop sees dozens of cars coming in for significant repairs or replacements that could have been prevented easily if the owners had taken heed sooner. Here are the most common mistakes people make and how to prevent yourself from making them.

Not Checking Your Alignment

When topping up your petrol, South African petrol attendants will frequently ask if they can check your tire pressure, and you allow them to do so, assuming they'll alert you if anything is amiss. You might believe this is enough to prevent blowouts and your tread from wearing out prematurely or unevenly. If we lived in any country other than South Africa, you could probably get away with this, but as we frequently travel on rough or pothole-riddled roads, you should also prioritise checking your wheel alignment more often. Our car service workshop teams recommend that you have them inspected and rotated every nine thousand kilometres, to be safe.

Not Checking All Your Fluids

Once again, you'll know that petrol attendants can check your oil and water when you fill up your tank, but these are just two of five essential fluids you need to check regularly. You should check your coolant levels twice a year when the seasons change and your window washer or power steering fluids every few months, when you detect changes or immediately after filling. While there likely won't be any problems here, you might find that the fluids are depleting sooner than they should, which would indicate a possible leak that needs attention.

Ignoring Heat Spikes

Notice that your car's temperature gauge spikes when your driving? It's usually first indicated by a ticking noise when your vehicle is turned off or your engine not performing as powerfully as it used to. It's essential to look out for this as if you allow your car to overheat repeatedly or push it too hard on a trip; your engine could become engulfed in flames or stop working, rendering your vehicle useless until its replaced.

Ignoring Bird Waste

It's easy to let the days slip by between car washes. After all, a little dust never hurt anyone and we're still in a drought! While a dusty car might not look its best, the dust won't cause any damage unless left for a very long time. On the other hand, bird waste is something you should pay attention to the minute it happens. If left for some time, it will eat away at your paint or become difficult to clean without specialised cleaning products and a slow, gentle approach.

Any Unusual Smell Or Sound

Notice a strange humming, ticking or buzzing? What about smoke, steam or burning? All of these could be perfectly harmless - or could be a sign that something's amiss. If you're driving and experience any of the above, stop as soon as possible and see if you can determine the location of the smell or sound. If it persists, you might need to book your car into a workshop without waiting for your service interval to roll around.

It's always better to be safe than sorry, and the above tips are just a few of the most reliable indicators that your car needs a little TLC. So, whether you need to bring it into a vehicle service workshop for a planned or unplanned visit, make sure Motus Select is the one you choose.

Examining the Fuel Economy of the Kia Rio vs Picanto

Examining the Fuel Economy of the Kia Rio vs Picanto

Fuel efficiency is a critical factor to consider when car shopping. With all of us feeling the crunch, you may be in the market for a more economical car, such as the Kia Rio for sale or the Kia Picanto.

Both are renowned for offering incredible fuel economy, which will meet your needs as a cash-strapped consumer in today’s current financial climate. But what is the better buy for your other needs, driving preferences, and lifestyle?

Below, we compare these two nifty hatchbacks to help you make a financially sensible decision for your wallet.

Cost-Effective Excellence: The Kia Rio

If you are looking for a city car to help you navigate daily traffic with just a little bit extra space for weekend adventures, then the Kia Rio is the car for you. What’s more impressive than its economical value for long-term driving is its fuel efficiency.

There are 11 variants in the newest range available in SA, with manual and automated gearboxes available in two distinct speeds: a 5-speed or a 6-speed. But what makes this a financially wise decision for most is that across the range of 1.2L, 1.4L, and 1.6L engines, the Rio consumes an average fuel rate of 6.2L/100km on many of its base models.

With over 40 high-quality used options available from us over at Motus Select, you are bound to find the ideal Kia Rio to meet your expectations quickly.

Budget Conscious Design: The Kia Picanto

A worthy contender for the Kia Rio is the much more compact Picanto. Unassuming at first, its size is no indication of its economical performance in any regard. But with a few variants available on both the new and pre-owned markets, consumers can shop according to their needs.

The range offers a 1.2L and 1.4L engine option, as well as manual and automated transmission gearboxes. With acclaimed top speeds reaching around 155 km/h, it is on the slower side of compact vehicles.

But where it excels is fuel economy. The Picanto, quick on its wheels, has an outstanding consumption rate of 5.8 litres per 100 km. For consumers looking for a car light on fuel from our extensive range for daily work or school commutes, the Picanto can deliver flawlessly. What it lacks in size, it more than makes up for with its extremely low usage, which can tackle rising prices today with ease.

When comparing two greats, such as the Kia Rio for sale or the Kia Picanto, you are spoilt for choice. More so when you consider their price points, exceptional value, and, most importantly, their incredible fuel economies.
