In 2024 Isuzu celebrated 60 years of truck and 45 years of bakkie production in South Africa. As one of the renowned local vehicle manufacturers, Isuzu is proud of its long heritage and positive contribution to South Africa and the continent at large.

When General Motors exited South Africa in 2017, Isuzu Motors Limited took the decision to assume ownership of the assembly plant and associated facilities in South Africa. This ensured that the production of their vehicles would continue.

A comprehensive bakkie line up

Isuzu are best known for their bakkies and their current line-up includes models that fit every use case, ranging from out and out workhorses to leisure focused models as well as hardcore off-roaders.

Isuzu’s D-Max single and extended cabs have a reputation for their hard-working ability and never say die attitude and are available with either a 1.9-litre engine or a powerful 3.0 engine and in both manual and automatic guise.

The legendary D-Max double cab is available in 16 derivatives and is forged from decades of manufacturing experience and local engineering that ensures durability, reliability and capability. The D-Max double cab is available with either a 1.9 or a 3.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine and a wide variety of specification options, ensuring that there is a double cab model that matches every use case and price point.

The Isuzu D-Max X-Rider takes the Isuzu double cab and adds an extra helping of styling. This includes a gloss black radiator grille and a red Isuzu badge, as well as X-Rider decals on the side fenders and tailgate, LED daytime running lights with LED front fog lamps, a blacked-out B-pillar and 18-inch diamond-cut black alloys.

The Isuzu D-Max AT35 was designed in collaboration with Arctic Trucks, which is renowned for producing some of the most capable overlanding vehicles on the planet. 

As the range topping model in the D-Max line up, the AT35 appeals to buyers who want to stand out from the crowd, as well as those aiming to exploit the vehicles adventurous nature and its remarkable off-road capabilities. What makes the Isuzu D-Max Arctic AT35 unique is that it is assembled at the Isuzu Motors South Africa plant in Struandale, ensuring the same build quality as regular D-Max models. The Struandale plant is the only facility in the world accredited by Arctic Trucks to produce the D-Max AT35.

Isuzu’s lone SUV, the MU-X is available in 1.9-litre and 3.0 models and combines bakkie underpinnings with a spacious luxurious interior that can easily carry seven passengers.

Trucks that are ready to work

Isuzu Trucks celebrated their six decades of trucking heritage in South Africa, with the re-launch of the legendary SBR 500 and JCR 800 Special Edition trucks.

Isuzu’s medium commercial range includes the NLR, NMR, NPR, NQR in a wide variety of configurations, including single and double cabs that are ready to tackle the toughest daily tasks in the city.

The heavy-commercial range includes the G-series and F-Series in a variety of configurations, which are at home in the city or out on the open road, hauling heavy loads.

In the extra-heavy commercial segment F-Series and G-Series models are available in a variety of configurations for carrying the heaviest of loads.
