If you’re looking at buying a demo car, you should go with someone you can trust.

If you’re looking at buying a demo car, you should go with someone you can trust.

Demo cars are a great way of getting that new model of car that you've had your eye on for a while now but just couldn't afford. With a bit of patience, you'd be able to find a demo version of your dream car after a year or two, and possibly get to enjoy some extra added features that you would have had to pay for if you bought one brand new. Demo cars aren't always readily available, however, but if you are on the hunt for one at the moment, it shouldn't be a reason for you to take chances with who you decided to buy from. Here's what you should look for in a dealer when scouting for demo cars for sale.

Although it's the car you're after, the person or dealership you purchase from is just as important, if not more so. A dealer can be the difference between driving off with a car that's everything you wanted and having set out payment plans, or finding yourself wishing you had never decided to begin with. If at all possible, try to deal only with dealerships that are well-established and have a good customer satisfaction rating. Ask around and look online for customer reviews to check that there isn't a long history of dissatisfaction or sales issues with a dealership. Once you've found a dealer that checks out on that front, arrange to meet with a salesperson face to face, if possible. While almost everything can be done on the phone, there's very little that can replace that gut feeling you get from speaking to someone in person.

Step 1: Assess The Dealer's Approach

The first thing to look for is that they have an open, honest approach to your questions, especially the harder ones. A good dealer will divulge all the necessary information, even the less appealing parts. If they're upfront about something like a faulty seatbelt or that the car had to be resprayed after a customer hit the curb with it once, you're probably in good hands. Be wary of dealers who try to force you into any decisions before answering all your questions and checking that you understand everything about the cost, paperwork, insurance and other aspects. If they try to rush you into making a decision or try to upsell you with another vehicle, they are probably more interested in reaching their sales targets than giving you what you want.

Step 2: Ask Questions And See If The Dealer Reveals The Pros And Cons

When discussing the demo car with the dealer, have them explain all of the pros and cons of opting for the demo model versus a used or new model. Ensure that you know if the car is still under warranty and exactly how much of the service plan and warranty remains. Inspect the vehicle and ask about how frequently it has been serviced, when last it was put through quality control and how it was prepared before being put on sale. This is vital, as a reputable dealer will have taken the best possible care of their demo vehicles and will have documentation to show the car's entire history with them. They will also have given the car a service, checked it from start to end, and had it cleaned and returned to as close to brand new condition as possible.

Step 3: Choose A Dealer Who Fits Your Payment Needs And Requirements

Next, discuss your payment options with them, if you're not going to pay the car cash or trade another in to buy the demo car cash. Dealers offer payment plans and financing, but you should be sure that there are no hidden costs involved or that the payment plan costs they initially showed are different from what you are given. If the pricing structure isn't within your monthly budget, discuss alternate payment options with them.

Step 4: Choose Motus Select And Browse Our Large Selection Of Demo Cars Now!

Overall, a reputable and professional dealer will be helpful, informative and willing to make a plan to help you secure the demo car for sale while ensuring you are completely informed about every part of the purchase and car's condition. We hope these tips will guide you in finding the best deals when looking for demo cars for sale. You know who to call, Motus Select. We've just received some fantastic demo cars for sale!

2021 Top Demo Deals This June

2021 Top Demo Deals This June

You may have heard that cars lose their resale value the moment they leave the showroom floor, and while it may seem puzzling, it is true. The average depreciation of a brand new car can be anywhere from 15-30% within the first year. Despite this, it’s undeniable that people love new cars.

People love the perfect, shiny coat of paint, that new car smell, the admiration and even envy that driving around in something that just arrived on the market evokes in onlookers, co-workers, friends and family. There’s a sense of accomplishment that comes with buying a new car that can’t quite be matched by buying a previously owned vehicle, but it’s a costly investment. Fortunately, another alternative can save you several thousands of Rands if you’re willing to be patient for a brief while. Demo cars for sale offer buyers the opportunity to own a car that is practically brand new but has already undergone that rough initial depreciation drop. They’re typically still very low in mileage – some even have only a few kilometres on the clock – and are extremely well looked after by the dealerships that use them to promote the model.

Thanks to the recent full acquisition of Renault by Motus, you can expect to see many more great deals on practically brand new Renault cars going forward. This month we feature a selection of some of our favourite demo models from various manufacturers that are currently available at incredible prices that will leave you smiling.

2021 New Kwid Climber

A very new arrival to the local market, the Kwid Climber is an upgraded variant of the standard Kwid and can be easily identified by its standout colour accents inside and outside the vehicle. Detailing in bright orange beside the standard colour bodywork highlights parts of the roof rack, fog lights and side mirrors, among others. Inside, you’ll find sporty seats in black with bright orange stripes and orange trim around door panels and the infotainment system in the dashboard.

This model is designed for consumers who want to stand out a bit from the crowd, although it has very similar features to its standard counterpart. It does not lack in features, though – you’ll find everything you want and need in this fairly-priced car.

Our featured Climber model comes in frost white with signature orange trim, has only 101km on the clock and is available for R169 500. With financing, you will pay around R2801 per month for 72 months.

2021 Hyundai Atos 1.1 Motion MT

The new shape Atos is a far cry from its much boxier predecessor and offers sleek lines and a curvier exterior. Standard features have also seen significant improvements with this recent rendition. The Atos comes with two airbags, electric windows, an infotainment system, steering wheel controls and an onboard trip computer. Designed to be a fun, zippy city car, the Atos is fuel-efficient, with an average of 5.9l per 100km, and is small enough to slip into and out of tight parking spots effortlessly.

With financial times being quite pressing for most South Africans, this is a great little car at a very affordable price. Our featured model comes in white and has 11 023km on the clock. It’s going for R169 995, or R2809 per month for 72 months with a payment plan.

2021 Renault Picanto 1.0 MT Start PE

Are you looking for a great little car that’s fun to drive, reliable and fuel-efficient? The Picanto ticks all the boxes as a popular city vehicle and is great for students, young workers and anyone who needs more function than huge amounts of space for a family. You’ll get an average of 5L/100km with this model, and service, spares and repair costs are relatively low so that upkeep won’t break the bank down the line.

This model comes in bright red and has 2149km on the clock. It’s going for R174 995, or R2891 per month for 72 months if you choose to pay it off through car financing.

If it’s great demo cars for sale you’re after, remember to keep checking the demo section of our website as we update stocks regularly and will keep bringing you great deals!

Tips For Inspecting And Test Driving Used Cars This Winter

Tips For Inspecting And Test Driving Used Cars This Winter

If you’re in the market for a car this winter and are busy scouting around for the best-used cars for sale, there are certain things to bear in mind if you want to avoid running into buyer’s regret at a later stage. While many great previously owned cars are available to buy – some of them only a few months or a year old, even – it’s important to know what to look out for as issues with the vehicle may not be immediately obvious.

Just because the interior and bodywork look spotless, it may be a very different story under the bonnet. Today we’ll cover a few ways you can get a better idea of a car’s condition when viewing and test driving it.

During Inspection

First impressions matter, as they say. Your interest in a car was probably escalated because of what you’ve seen in photographs and by the price tag. When you go view the car in person, here are a few less-than-obvious things to check out.

  1. Look for any signs of rust or flaking paint and patched up bodywork.

This is especially important if you’re viewing a car whose owner resides close to the ocean, as salty sea air is notorious for degrading metal much faster in coastal towns and cities. Be sure to check under the car as well, as the owner may have neglected to do proper upkeep in those areas, and a sudden issue could arise due to components that have begun to rust through.

  1. Open and close all doors and check that all the keys work in all slots.

Check for doors that creak or don’t close properly. Also, be sure to check the exterior of the car for misaligned panels, as this could indicate that the car may have been in an accident or fender bender. If that seems to be the case, ask the owner or dealer for more information and be sure to take note of how forthcoming they are about the less appealing aspects of the car. After all, you’d rather deal with an honest person who admits to the car’s faults than someone who claims there’s absolutely nothing wrong with it, as this is highly unlikely to be the case for a car that’s a few years old.

  1. Check the condition of the tyres and paintwork.

If the tread is looking thin, it means you’ll have to add a new set of tyres to your budget if you’re going to buy the car. The same goes for other parts and components that look like they will need an upgrade or repair soon.

  1. Don’t forget the small things because once you own the car, you’re bound to notice them.

Check all the lights on the car. That includes headlights, indicator lights, fog lights and interior cabin lights. Try all the seatbelts to ensure they work properly. Test the radio and the air conditioning on both hot and cold and all the various fan speeds.

When Test Driving

For this part, you’ll need to tune into your senses and make mental notes of anything that feels or sounds ‘off’.

  1. Make sure that the driver’s seat is comfortable.

We don’t often think about this, but some cars simply don’t feel comfortable driving, either because the seat causes back pain and discomfort, or the distance between you and the gear knob isn’t an easy reach away. This all depends entirely on your build, height and personal preference, but it is important that you feel ‘good’ when sitting behind the wheel. You should also be sure that you have a clear view ahead of you and to the sides, as any of these factors will affect how you drive with the car.

  1. Start the car and let it idle for a bit.

Listen for any rattling noises, odd vibrations or sounds that shouldn’t be there. Also, check if the car starts the first time and check for any excess smoke emissions from the exhaust.

  1. While driving, try to test out as many aspects of the vehicle as possible.

Turn the radio on and listen for audio clarity – this also helps determine how soundproof the car’s interior is, which is something you’ll want to enjoy for years, instead of constant noise from the engine and outside. Take the car on various terrains to see how well it handles, and be sure to test the handbrake on an uphill stop, especially if you live in a hilly area where this will be an important function.

If you’re happy with everything, you saw and felt while inspecting the vehicle and during the test drive, the final remaining thing to check is paperwork. Try to get as much information about the car’s history through service records and registered paperwork. Remember never to buy a car from someone if they don’t have the registered documents proving that they are the vehicle owner.

For an effortless viewing of the best-used cars for sale, trust a dealership that guarantees customer satisfaction, and that has gone through the necessary paperwork and red tape for you to save you time and give you peace of mind when buying from them.

MOTUS Makes Headway With Exclusive Renault Acquisition

MOTUS Makes Headway With Exclusive Renault Acquisition

Motus Holdings Limited, owners of subsidiary Motus Select, have recently secured full control of Renault in South Africa through the acquisition of remaining shares in the company. This comes after long-planned negotiations with Renault France, who is the main owner of the brand internationally.

Motus had already owned a total of 60% of shares in Renault South Africa before this agreement, and have now bought out the remaining 40% for R250 million to gain total ownership of the brand in the country. With 81 Renault dealerships across the country, Motus now has complete control over how and where they all operate and will be able to provide Renault vehicles and services more efficiently.

An Ever-Growing Company

This isn’t the first major acquisition for Motus, however. Throughout the past few years, they’ve managed to secure exclusive rights to import and sell Kia, Hyundai and Mitsubishi cars in South Africa as well. The recent full takeover of Renault is yet another significant milestone for the company and further bolsters its ever-growing status as a JSE-listed leader in the automotive industry. They have also expanded their reach beyond local borders by establishing offices in the United Kingdom, Southern and East Africa, Australia and South East Asia.

Beyond being an importer of major brands in the country, they also sell new and used cars and provide a fleet of vehicles to car rental agencies Europcar and Tempest – totalling 98 outlets nationwide. Now, with full control of Renault, they will have the freedom to expand their rental offerings to include Renault vehicles to rental companies more readily as well.

At the base of their operations in South Africa, the company has 329 dealerships as well as several digital and other platforms through which they provide sales and affiliate services. Service and repair centres for all of their exclusive car brands are placed countrywide, and they will continue to open more to facilitate easy access to car owners across the country. The company also offers car financing services, car insurance, fleet provision, extended service and maintenance plans as well as roadside assistance.

Their UK branch hosts a total of 88 commercial vehicle dealerships and 32 passenger car dealerships, while they have a total of 36 dealerships across Australia as well. They aim to further expand their offering in Australia by introducing new automotive brands to the country, located in the vicinity of existing dealerships or by creating bolt-on acquisitions. Long term plans include opening more consumer car dealerships in rural areas beyond major metropolitan sectors.

What Does This Mean For Renault Owners?

If you’re an existing Renault owner or have been planning on buying a Renault in the future, you’ll still be guaranteed the same service excellence and availability of stock as always. Motus will now be exclusively responsible for the imports, sales and servicing of all Renault vehicles in South Africa, and with dealerships in all corners of the country, you won’t struggle to find one near where you live.

Another great news is that you’re likely to see the arrival of several new models in South Africa, including the new Renault Kiger. With full control over Renault in the country, Motus will also be able to negotiate better deals and streamline the sales and other processes surrounding Renault without outside influence from the previous 40% shareholder.

With the significant and extensive service offerings Motus has to offer, customers can confidently purchase or sell their vehicles and receive professional servicing and repairs with an absolute peace of mind. If you’re currently in the market for a Renault used car or have another car in mind, make the smart decision and get peace of mind by entrusting the process to Motus Select.
