GWM are a relatively new entrant to the South African market who have cemented themselves regularly into top five on the local monthly vehicle sales charts.
Ongoing, sustainable, growth
The GWM brand which has been available in South Africa for sixteen years now, has grown from a small supplier of bakkies to a local powerhouse with a comprehensive range of vehicles catering to every taste, application and customer segment.
A large percentage of the brands growth has been recorded in the last five years thanks to the introduction of an all-new product portfolio that covers four distinct sub segments.
A key contributor to this growth is the fact that GWM have remained committed to South Africa since they arrived here, loyal to their customers and with a steady investment in their dealer network and local infrastructure.
This has resulted in a well-established and healthy dealer network that stretches across Southern Africa along with a parts distribution facility to match.
Four brands under one umbrella
The GWM brand consists of four sub-brands, including Haval, which is their SUV moniker, P-Series which is reserved for their bakkie line up, Ora which denotes their fully electric models and Tank, their luxury 4x4 brand.
GWM currently offer a cross section of product categories and propulsion types, including SUVs, bakkies, 4x4s, family and city vehicles. Across all these categories they offer hybrid and Internal Combustion Engines, while the Ora ticks the battery electric vehicle box.
The Haval range includes SUVs such as the Jolion, priced from R345 950, the H6 priced from R492 050, the H6 GT priced from R662 250 and the flagship Haval H7, priced from R601 950.
Since its launch in December 2020, the GWM P-Series has ensured great success for the Chinese brand and has been one of its best sellers. The P-Series has been able to achieve what many other established players have struggled to do in a market where customers are extremely loyal, thanks to the combination of a good product and excellent value for money.
GWM’s double-cab model was recently updated and rebranded and will carry the P300 nomenclature going forward.
The P-Series bakkie range is spearheaded by the flagship P500, which boasts numerous segment firsts for a large bakkie including luxury features such as massaging seats, a hybrid drivetrain, a sunroof and an innovative split/folding rear tailgate.
In addition to the P500 and the recently introduced P300 double cab, the bakkie range continues to include the P-Series 2.0-litre and Steed workhorse.
The Tank line-up includes the Tank 300 and Tank 500, priced at R699 900 and R1 222 900 respectively. These models perfectly blend true off-road pedigree with luxury resulting in a vehicle that knows no boundaries in terms of terrain or comfort. An eye-catching, rugged, squared off exterior is sure to turn heads.
The fully electric Ora 3, priced from R686 950, remains on of SA’s most affordable electric vehicles.
