Abarth is a racing and road car manufacturer that was founded by Italo-Austrian Carlo Abarth in 1949. The brand rose to prominence by building exhaust systems for a wide variety of vehicles including Porsches, Volkswagens, Alfa Romeos and Fiats. Abarth’s association with Fiat began in 1952 when the Abarth 1500 Biposto rolled out of their workshop on Fiat mechanicals.

Carl Abarth’s performance centric models achieved huge success in a variety of motorsport disciplines and set many records at the time. In the 1950s and 1960s, the Abarth brand continuously made a name for itself in the public eye as the synonym for sport, tuning and performance, changing the sports car world. Abarth vehicles were always renowned for their exceptional performance and power output whilst being small and agile and that recipe remains in use today with models such as the Abarth 595 Competizione.

In South Africa the sole Abarth model that is offered at the moment is the top of the range Abarth 595 Competizione.

The Abarth 595 is powered by Fiat’s 1.4-litre T-Jet engine, which produces 132kW and 250Nm in Competizione guise. This engine can be paired to either a five-speed manual or a five-speed robotized sequential gearbox. Helping the Abarth 595 put the power down to the road efficiently is a mechanical limited-slip differential. The result is a little pocket rocket that can sprint from standstill to 100km/h in just 6,7 seconds.

The Abarth is differentiated from regular Fiat 500 derivatives by colour coded front and rear bumper inserts, mirror covers and decal sets. The front and rear lights are also different and feature poly elliptical headlights and LED daytime running lights.

The Abarth rides on a bespoke suspension setup that comprises Macpherson layout upfront and a torsion beam at the rear. Damping is taken care of by Koni shock

absorbers featuring frequency selective damping. The Abarth 595 Competizione rides on 17-inch wheels as standard.

The interior is more premium than regular models and finished in black or natural leather and Alcantara. All models feature air-conditioning with climate control, electric windows and central locking. A seven-inch TFT digital display with advanced sport mode and Uconnect five-inch radio with Bluetooth integration and steering wheel controls keeps occupants connected and entertained.

Safety is taken care of by five airbags, ABS brakes with EBD and ESC as well as Anti Slip Regulation, a Hill Holder function and a tyre pressure monitoring system.
